I can tell you ain’t had much learning ‘bout living in these parts, so I reckon I’ll help you out, (seeings how I ain’t gonna hold it against you).

First off, you need to know that if someone says they’ve been bush-hogging they’re probably pretty tuckered, since they’ve been clearing the land of weeds, thistles, underbrush and the like.

Moreover, you need to get real excited if someone says they got a ten-pointer, ‘cause that’s one big buck with five points on each of his antlers…5 plus five making ten points in all.

If somebody asks you to carry them to town they’re simply asking for a ride. If they wonder where your home-place is…why, they simply want to know ‘bout your family’s land, where your grandpa, pa and you were born and raised. And if someone says they live in a holler, they’re clearly saying they live in the hollow of a mountain—You know, the valley part.

Most importantly, if you’re surprised or really excited ‘bout something someone is saying, you need to declare, “Great Day in the Morning!”

I reckon I’ve talked enough about that.

So what kinda things do they say in your parts? I’d love to know!
